About Gas-assisted Flares
Stable Combustion When You Need It Most
Our Gas-assisted Flares at Tornado Combustion use fuel gas to support combustion, which can be particularly useful when you’re working with low-pressure, low-BTU systems that need stability. They are a popular choice in high wind conditions because of the stability the fuel gas provides, especially when you aren’t prepared for the costs associated with an enclosed ground flare.
We design our gas-assisted flares with either High Pressure (HP) or Low Pressure (LP) processes in mind. What you need depends on what you’re struggling with.
LP Gas-Assisted Flares
If you can smell rotten eggs, you probably have sour gas odours. Sour gas odours are caused by hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is not only unpleasant, but also toxic in even low concentrations.
Sometimes, in very high wind conditions, particles can slip through the initial combustion process. We use a ring burner in our LP gas-assisted design that surrounds the flare tip, creating a flame curtain for the waste gas to pass through. That flame curtain eliminates any particles of compounds like H2S that the made it through the pilot-initiated combustion process.
HP Gas-Assisted Flares
HP Gas-Assisted Flares are used for smokeless burning of low pressure, heavy hydrocarbons. They use natural gas as the assist medium to inspirate air, create turbulence, and produce smokeless burning when other assist mediums such as steam or air are not available.
This design uses a high-pressure fuel injection nozzle, installed at the flare tip, which is significantly more efficient than just diluting a waste gas stream with fuel gas. High pressure fuel injection nozzles increase turbulence, improving mixing and air injection for better combustion.
Why Choose Us
world leading gas-assisted flare system engineers
Inefficient or ineffective systems are one of the biggest reasons our clients first approach us for a custom-designed solution. After all, we have some of the world’s leading gas-assisted flare system engineers.
We’ll evaluate your system, site conditions, waste fuels, and other needs, and have our in-house engineering team design something that we know will be efficient, effective, and safe. That’s not something a cheaper, one-size fits all flare can guarantee.

Do You Need a Replacement?
If your gas-assisted flare is emitting visible smoke, giving off sour gas odours, has poor flame stability, is using excessive fuel gas without a noticeable improvement in combustion quality, or has visible deficiencies like sagging or corrosion, you should contact us about a replacement.
